Specialty Coffee Blends, Roasted Fresh Every Week in Mission, BC
At Grab-a-Java, our specialty coffee blends are not pulled from a warehouse shelf. Each one is roasted in small batches at our Mission, BC roastery and made available for pick-up while the flavours are still at their peak. Think of it the way you think of bread from a good bakery: fresh out of the oven, not sitting in a bag for months. Coffee oils are volatile, and within 30 days of roasting, the full range of aromas and flavours starts to fade. Our blends are built so you never have to settle for anything less than the real thing.

Artisan Blend Roasting in Mission, BC
The Blends We Roast, and What Makes Each One Worth Trying
Our premium coffee blend selection covers a wide range of roast profiles, from smooth and approachable to deep and bold. Smooth Sailing is our signature blend, built for everyday drinking with a balanced, easy-going character. Full City Sasquatch goes darker, producing a rich, full-bodied cup that stands up well to milk. Full Tilt Espresso is dialed in specifically for espresso preparation, where concentration and clarity of flavour matter most. World Gold rounds out the lineup as a well-balanced organic option, and Dark Secrets brings intensity for those who want something with real weight. Each season we also produce the Dysfunctional Family Christmas Blend, a limited offering that has become a favorite for the holidays. All of these blends are roasted using high-quality Arabica beans, sourced through Fair-Trade and USDA Organic certified channels.

Why Freshness Changes Everything
What Grocery Store Coffee Cannot Give You
Mass-market coffee is often roasted months before it reaches the shelf. By that point, the volatile compounds that give coffee its complexity, including the 430 distinct characteristics the human palate can detect, have already broken down. Oily beans are a common sign of age, not richness. Our artisan coffee blend roasting process is built around a strict freshness mandate: roast weekly, sell fresh, and never let inventory sit. The difference between a Grab-a-Java blend and a corporate house blend coffee is not just the beans. It is the timeline from roast to cup. We source high-elevation Arabica beans at a cost that reflects genuine quality, not the cut-rate Robusta filler that relies on cream and sugar to taste like anything at all.

Certifications and Sourcing Standards
Blends You Can Feel Good About Buying
Every blend in our lineup is built on beans that meet serious ethical and quality standards. We source through Fair-Trade certified channels, USDA Organic certified suppliers, and Café Femenino, a program that specifically supports women coffee farmers in regions like Peru, where we have maintained a sourcing relationship for over 20 years. Our decaf option uses the Swiss Water Process, which removes caffeine without chemical solvents, preserving the natural flavour profile of the bean. These are not marketing checkboxes. They reflect long-term relationships with specific co-ops and farms, including Santa Cristina Farms, the Oromia Coffee Co-op, and the Cosurca Co-op. When you buy a Grab-a-Java blend, you know exactly where the beans came from and who grew them.
Coffee Blends, Answered
Common Questions About Our Blends
What specialty coffee blends does Grab-a-Java currently offer?
The current lineup includes Smooth Sailing (the signature blend), Full City Sasquatch (a dark roast), Full Tilt Espresso (crafted for espresso preparation), World Gold, and Dark Secrets. A seasonal Dysfunctional Family Christmas Blend is also available during the holiday period. All blends are roasted in small batches using high-quality Arabica beans sourced through Fair-Trade and USDA Organic certified channels. Availability can vary based on current bean supply, so it is worth confirming which blends are in stock before placing a special order. How long does a freshly roasted blend stay at its best after purchase?
Coffee is most flavourful within 30 days of roasting. After that window, the volatile compounds responsible for aroma and the full range of flavour characteristics begin to break down noticeably. Grab-a-Java roasts weekly specifically to keep that window as wide as possible for customers. Buying fresh and storing your beans in a sealed container at room temperature, away from light and heat, will help you get the most out of every bag. What is the difference between a blend and a single origin coffee?
A blend combines beans from two or more origins, roasted and proportioned to produce a consistent, balanced flavour profile across batches. Single origin coffees come from one specific region or farm, meaning the flavour reflects the unique soil, altitude, and processing conditions of that place. Blends tend to be more forgiving across different brew methods, while single origins often reward more precise preparation. Grab-a-Java offers both, and the sampler packages are a practical way to compare them side by side. Can I order a specific bag size or have something custom roasted?
Yes. While 1 lb bags are the standard purchase, half-pound, 2 lb, and 5 lb bags are available as special orders. These require a minimum 3-day lead time to allow for custom roasting. Pricing for the standard 1 lb bag runs approximately $24, with variation depending on the specific blend and current bean availability. The 5 lb bag is priced at approximately $95. All orders are pick-up only at the Mission, BC roastery. Are the blends certified organic or Fair-Trade?
Yes. Grab-a-Java sources through USDA Organic certified and Fair-Trade certified channels. The lineup also includes beans sourced through the Café Femenino program, which supports women coffee farmers in regions including Peru, where the roastery has maintained a sourcing relationship for over 20 years. The decaf option uses the Swiss Water Process, which removes caffeine without chemical additives, preserving the natural taste of the bean.Which brew method works best for each blend?
The right brew method depends on the blend. Full Tilt Espresso is built for espresso machines, where pressure extraction highlights its concentrated character. Smooth Sailing and World Gold work well across a range of methods including French press and pour-over. Darker roasts like Full City Sasquatch hold up well in a French press, where the full body comes through. Grab-a-Java also offers Hario brewing tools, including the V60 Drip Scale and Timer, designed for precise measurement of beans, water, and extraction time.Is there a discount for bringing my own container?
Yes. Customers who bring their own container or reuse their bag receive a $1 discount per order. This applies at pick-up at the Mission, BC roastery location. What is the Dial-A-Bag service and how does it work?
Dial-A-Bag is a text-based service Grab-a-Java runs as a community resource for customers who need beans outside of regular pick-up hours. It is text-only, not a phone or delivery service. Details for reaching the Dial-A-Bag line are available through the roastery's contact information. This is a pick-up service based in Mission, BC and is not a general delivery program.
